Abstract
The ballad "Erl-King" (Erlkönig) by J.W. von Goethe, written about two hundred years ago inspired by the Danish legend and translated into many languages, is a case-phenomenon and keeps the relevance so far. The conceptual importance of mythological plots of the ballad causes interest in philosophers, linguists, theorists of literature, culturologists and gives rise at modern writers to desire of creative parallelism and allusive use of the key image and atmosphere of ballad in various genres of art. Allusions to the ballad "Erl-King" in contemporary music culture are examined in the article; interpretation of images and plot in the modern rock compositions based on the ballad is carried out.
