Abstract
The development of a nation is largely dependent on the availability of good and sustainable Transportation infrastructure. The constant pavement defects and failures experienced on Ado-IjanEkiti road way can be related to several causes. The need to addressth is becomes imperative. Samples were picked from different locations at varying depths (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 m), and wereanalyzed in the geotechnical laboratory. The tests include; specificgravity, sieveanalysis, California bearing ratio (CBR), AtterbergLimit tests and Compaction tests. The result of the geotechnical investigations shows that the soil materials were well graded but had a low bearing capacity. Most of the soilshad no plasticity as required by the FMW&H. It wasconcluded that the engineering and geological investigation showedthat the defects present on the road way is not due to traffic loading but rather low bearing capacity and plasticity of the soil at sub base and base course levels.
