Abstract

This study aims to look at the impact of Visual Art Therapy application in addressing cognitive emotion regulation and anxiety among single mothers. Quasiexperimental methods involving pre-test and post-test were used. A total of 30 respondents involved in this study. Visual Art therapy was implemented through structured group counseling for eight weeks. Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) to assess the level of cognitive emotion regulation and Symptoms Checklist 90 (SCL-90) to measure the level of anxiety before and after the therapy process. The results showed that there were differences in the mean score between pre-test and post-test of cognitive emotion regulation and anxiety of single mothers after experiencing Visual Arts Therapy. The study was found to be effective in helping single mothers to handle their way of thinking and evaluating the situation experienced as well as addressing their anxieties. Visual Art Therapy contributes to the development of knowledge in the field of counseling, particularly in treatment options offered by counselors for clients such as single mothers. In addition, it could also contribute to the development of science in counseling
