Abstract
The growth of human population is pointing towards an upward swing in consumption of different resources; and the edible living beings found in the water bodies are one of those. In present era, aquaculture, particularly fisheries are providing a new dimension to the entire food production system. However, an aspect that remains crucial throughout the food production system and the fisheries industry is management: of stock, of day-to-day operations and of supply, along with the quality of the products (fishes), so that whatever is being produced or procured can be utilized in the truest of its sense. This paper is an attempt to assess the current status of data management in fisheries and to see the road map ahead for introducing technology (Artificial Intelligence, Sensors, etc.). The objectives of the study primarily focus on how the fisheries operating traditionally in Assam can be developed so that their data management can be brought in line with the technology based platforms implemented in other regions. The paper is based on both primary and secondary data. Moreover, some case studies have been used which elaborate the applicability of the said technologies
