Abstract

To explore the effect of transformational leadership behaviour on emotional exhaustion through the mediation of work alienation. Primary data was collected from 412 employees working in organisations to empirically test the relationship in an Indian context. The findings of the study disclose that transformational leadership determines emotional exhaustion among employees and the relationship is fully mediated by work alienation. The model put forth by the study could help study and prevent the experience of emotional exhaustion among employees through abatement of work alienation. This study refocuses the attention of human resource practitioners towards work alienation by determining the effect of transformational leadership on emotional exhaustion through the mediating effect of work alienation.
