Abstract

The current paper focused on a historical assessment of changing phases of spatial patterns at rural and Urban transitional zones in Visakhapatnam city during the years 1985 to 2020. The fundamental key for the sustainable administration of an urban area is the comprehension of ur-banization history, specifically land cover land use changes, which is crucial to survey the impacts of urbanization on its surrounding environment. Visakhapatnam city is witnessing quick pace of urbanization which is located in the province of Andhrapradesh, India. The changing trends of land resources in the study area from the past four decades to present demonstrated that the industrial and builtup areas expanding on the upward trend, where as the land use under farming, plantation, aquaculture and forest in a declined trend. The historical dynamic changes of land use land cover patterns carried out with the aid of geo spatial technology over space and time. Expansion of ur-ban settlements, improvement of infrastructure and industries are the significant changes addressed in the study area and there is every sign that the pace of these progression will accelerate in future. It was observed clearly that the population growth which accelerates the financial development has triggered rapid conversation of land resources. Thus, the choice of selecting the study area was to assess emerging changes with the help of past and present satellite data and predict the dynamic changes of land resources in the study area. Land use and land cover (LULC) change maps have become a central components in surveying regular assets and detecting pace of its changes. Spatial technology and its innovations tools providing mapping and monitoring of rapid urbanization across large spatial scales.
