Abstract
Students as key players of an education institution play a vital role in its success. Students remain loyal and perform well if they are kept satisfied in their studies. This study examined the predicting effect of motivational factors on student satisfaction and examined the moderating impact of personality traits on the causal relationships. Three categories of motivations known as intrinsic, extrinsic and amotivation are studied as prognosticators of student academic satisfaction whereas Big five personality traits are used as personality factors. The study has been tested on 320 graduate level university students in Islamabad, Pakistan. Results have found the predicting strength of motivation on academic satisfaction and moderating effect of Big-5 personality traits was also found between extrinsic motivation and student academic satisfaction. The empirical findings add to existing research the role of motivation and personality traits on student academic satisfaction.
