SEMANTIC ASSIMILATION AND DERIVATION OF LEXIC UNITS BORROWED FROM ORIENTAL LANGUAGES INTO FRENCH

Borrowings are one of the main sources of language vocabulary replenishment. At the same time, the transition of a lexical unit from one language to another cannot be mechanical - the process of borrowing is always associated with the adaptation of the lexical unit to the phonetic and grammatical system of the recipient language, as well as with semantic transformations - narrowing, expanding the meaning, or further derivation. In this article, the author examines the features of semantic assimilation and further derivation of words borrowed by French from oriental languages.
