Abstract
Semantics and speech usage of the words “glamur” and “pafos” are studied. It is established that this lexical unit in Russian language still retains a barbarism status and possesses all features of ideological word. The word “glamour” is found on the periphery of the lexical field of verbalizing means of vanity and transmits the meaning of insane aspiration to glory only in that part of its speech usage contexts where glamour is marked by negative connotations. The word “pathos” mainly coincides semantically with classical vanity, in deep structure of which lies certain inferiority complex, impelling its subject to self-affirmation at the cost of others. Pathos possesses its own age coloring – that of teenagers.
