Abstract
The article deals with the updated, the 5th edition of the International standard «ISO 2789: 2013 Information and Documentation. International library statistics», the experience of implementation of the standard in foreign countries is highlighted, the main aspects of the revised normative document are described. This International Standard specifies rules for the library and information services community on the collection and reporting of statistics. Ukrainian professionals in Library Science pointed out that the global process of standards updating in Library Statistics is quite dynamic one and is not protracted, as it currently exists in Ukraine. Thus, in the leading European countries, the discussion of the clauses of the new ISO international standard and its adaptation to the national needs of the Library Science was started at the level of the draft of updated normative document, or immediately after its entry into force in 2013 (Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, etc.). Ukrainian libraries must associate themselves with this global trend to encourage good practice in the use of statistics for the management of library and information services.
