Abstract
The issue of phraseological units functioning of the biblical origin in language of the French press and the translation problems arising in this context are regarded. The different types of biblical expressions are analyzed and ways of their translation are studied. The author justifies thesis that the divergence in the relations between the form and content of biblical expression are manifested in their asymmetry, and, for search of the equivalent, the translator should be familiar with history of biblical expression, with its semantics and the frequency of functioning in the speech.
