Abstract

Higher education is in a state of growth with institutions being established with new mission and innovative configurations of training its human capital; its faculty members. Higher Education Institutions (HEI) must focus on serving society's needs to survive in the future by developing new structures, learning environments, and technologies based on the current trends in the industry. To be successful, universities must be able to respond to opportunities as well as serve as catalysts to create a new vision, have a clear sense of the future, be organized to energize and support the efforts to carry out the vision with its faculty. The teaching fraternity will perceive success in their career if they have a conducive environment in which they can hone their skills and contribute towards the institution's vision. This paper investigates the impact of institution environment on career success of faculty who are working in the HEIs. Six hundred and sixty two faculty members who belong to the Coimbatore district participated in the study. 10% of the population was selected using stratified random sampling method with a response rate of 77.8%. The data used for the study was highly reliable with Cronbach alpha measuring 0.9. The study revealed that there is a direct relationship between the institutional environment and career success of the faculty working in both Arts & Science and Engineering & Technology institutions.
