Abstract
The article provides a comprehensive and detailed study of the integration processes in Western Eu- rope at their initial stage, including the causes, ideological basis, substantive aspect and implications for further integration. The chronological framework of the research is limited to the fifties of the twentieth century, when the first supranational associations were created, and the composition of this integration grouping was limited to six states – France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The key documents of this peri- od are the Treaties of Paris and Rome, which confirmed the creation of such organizations as the European Coal and Steel Community and the European Economic Community
