Abstract
The emotional state of 7th grade schoolchildren before reading a fairy tale was tested by the test of anxiety (R. Temml, M. Dorky, V. Umen); self-assessment of teenagers' emotions at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of reading was considered. Data on teenagers' emotions were processed by content analysis, peer review method, and scaling. The subjects have a state of anxiety of medium and high levels, their emotions before reading the fairy tale were negative. We have identified groups of creative readers, active, passive and non-readers. Only creative readers were able to understand the subtext of the tale. At the end of the reading, emotions changed to positive ones. In the group of adult experts, at the beginning of reading, emotions were positive, at the end - more intense positive. Thus, the idea that fiction is capable of generating positive emotions in readers is confirmed.
