Abstract
The present study is an attempt to examine the issues of marginalization on the basis of colour in the backdrop of American societyin some selected works of Toni Morrison. Colours being a concern to the black writer, her fictional works are deep rooted in issues dealing with Blacks in America who are subjected, exploited and economically deprived. Morrison in her works deal with the African American community, who have suffered through generations of suppression and exploitation even after slave laws were removed and technically blacks and whites enjoyed equality. The American psyche is a culture construct and centuries of subjugation, discrimination and economic deprivation has imposed upon the blacks a sense of inferiority, predestined to suffer and resentment for the whites. This paper is an attempt to discuss these issues inselected works of Toni Morrison.
