Abstract

In 1463, Bosnia and Herzegovina was included under the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire brought with it new Islamic religion, language, culture and tradition. These new elements are also reflected in the social life of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to the religion of Islam, Ottoman Turkish, the official language of the Ottoman Empire, still continues its traces through various cultural and architectural structures, although it is not used in daily life. This study examines the names of streets in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was once under the government of the Ottoman State, and bearing Ottoman Turkish elements in their names. The study will be examined in terms of root, sound, structure and semantics. During the Ottoman Empire, besides the local language, Bosnian, Ottoman Turkish was also used in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since Ottoman Turkish consists of Arabic, Persian and Turkish, street names will be evaluated in Arabic, Persian and Turkish. In this study, street names with Bosnian origin and containing Turkish annexes will also be included.
