Effect of Project Based Learning Approach on 5th Grade Students’ Achievement Attitude and Conceptual Understanding

Abstract
The aim of this study was to identfy the effectiveness of project based learning method on fifth grade students’ achievement, conceptual understanding and attitudes toward the science in science cource. Control and experimental groups were randomly assigned. The treatment group was given instruction by using the project based learning method while the control group was was given instruction by using the traditional method. The measurement instruments used in this study were Achvievement Test, Concept Test and Attitude Scale for Science. Both groups were given pre and post tests using these three instruments. The results of pre-test and post-test showed that project based learning method was more succesful than the traditional method when the criteria of achievement, conceptual understanding and attitudes toward science of students (p<0,05) are considered.
