Abstract
In this study electro-coagulation treatment of dairy industry wastewater, generated milk, curd, ghee etc manufacturing was studied using electro coagulation (EC) process. Dairy industry wastewater is characterized by high chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, TDS and other pollutant. Along with this high volume of wastewater, sour odors add further woes to the surrounding environment causing health hazard. So the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the operating parameters such as applied voltage, number of electrodes, and reaction time on a real dairy wastewater in the electro-coagulation process. For that aluminum was used as electrode. It has been shown that the removal efficiency of COD, Turbidity, and TDS increased with increasing the applied voltage and the reaction time. Maximum removal of COD, Turbidity, TDS are 70%, 100% and 69% respectively. From the Experimental investigation it can be conclude that electro-coagulation has the potential as a viable method for effectively removing different pollutants.
