An educational management is a type of management activity which consists of a set of tools, methods, and forms of influence on the persons and the staff for the effective functioning of the educational branch. Any management system consists of local control subsystems, one of which is strategic management. Purpose. The strategic management provides the optimization of the functioning of higher educational establishments. The importance of skillful using of its methods is fully proved. Methods. General scientific methods of cognition, methods of management theory, methods of induction and induction, methods of analysis and synthesis. Results. In the developed educational establishments in the world, the planning is examined as a process which is based on the analysis of the social mission of higher educational establishments (HEE), external and internal conditions of activity for the achieving of the identified goals.The effectiveness of strategic management of HEE depends on taking into account internal potential and risks of the environment. The detailed study of the internal environment of HEE aims to determine a real level of its competitiveness in the result of matching the relevant factors of the external and internal environment. It is here that we need to get an answer to the question of what should be done for the activity of HEE to be fully adapted to the dynamic development of the environment. The SWOT-analysis is a universal method for studying the internal environment of HEE it also gives the information to the administration which is needed to be selected as a strategy. Let's consider also PEST-analysis. This is a consistent, step-by-step analysis of factors. It is a useful tool for the market understanding, the positions of HEE, its potential and directed activity. PEST analysis is a tool designed to identify aspects of the environment that can affect the strategy of HEE. Originality. SWOT-analysis is done and PEST-analysis for a particular HEE and strategic conclusions are made. Conclusion. The effectiveness of the functioning of the educational establishment is determined by the perfection of the internal environment, which finds the manifestation in the rationally optimal interaction of all its elements. The ability of the educational establishment to operate successfully is a potential of its activity.
