Abstract

The article concentrates on the methodology for the formation, development and control of listening skills in technical students. It is revealed the essence and the requirements for their formation. A special emphasis is placed on the use of the test as an evaluation method. It is given a comprehensive overview of the theoretical foundations of the prerequisites for the organization of listening skills estimation. Teaching listening skills is an urgent task for a teacher, because of a strong motivation for the use of a foreign language in students` future professional activities. According to the foreign language syllabi for non-linguistics students, they have to be able to recognize and understand foreign texts of various types (including professional ones). The purpose of the study is to theoretically substantiate the development of listening skills in students, in particular, studying at non-linguistics universities; to consider listening as a means of developing proficiency in a foreign language and as a process that requires listening comprehension evaluation. As a result of our research it is proved that auding is the process of mastering a foreign language through the gradual and systematic formation of foreign language skills, acquisition of foreign language knowledge (including foreign language for specific purposes); the type of oral activity with special requirements for audio texts, and the level of listening skills requiring specific methodology. Our study covers the teaching of professionally-oriented monologues to students on the basis of audio texts according to the given specialty. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that special attention is paid to the development of listening skills in non-linguistics students. By modeling the real conditions of professional activity in foreign language classes, it is assured a comprehensive understanding of the professionally-oriented training material. The research practical significance is the fact that this approach changes the level of non-linguistics students` foreign language skills: a positive dynamics is registered or negative results are detected. The prospects of further research are the development of a methodology for listening comprehension in ESP courses which will provide the development of listening skills in cyber security students.
