Abstract
The ways to improve the competitiveness of railway transport in Ukraine are considered. Attention is focused on improving the efficiency of passenger transportations by increasing of trains speed, by increasing the quality of transport services and improving the comfort of passenger transportations. A new approach to assessment of the effectiveness of railway passenger transportations is suggested based on an improved classification of passenger trains in Ukraine.
