In the article the subject of study is the problem of the historical role of the Christian ideal in our culture. The goal is the analysis of the internal structure of the latter. Used evolutionary methodology that reveals the formation of this ideal in the context of rejection of pagan ideas of the Beautiful and Good and genetic connection with the teachings of the Old Testament; the question of the fate of the secular ideal in the field of Modern and Postmodern when reigned the spirit of neo-pagan revenge born back in the bosom of the Renaissance. It proved a unique role of the Christian ideal in the formation of the European personalism. This should be adjusted somewhat tendentious statements of previous years. According to the author, it is indisputable that the Christian ideal still has a broad scope; it is aimed at the practical realization of the idea of man as the bearer of the image of God. Author does not advocate Christianity, but emphasizes its crucial role in our culture.
