Abstract

This work aims to provide a general demonstration of river watershed delineation methods using ArcGIS. In beginning, watershed delineation was mainly done by the hand delineation methods. But now days this has been suppressed by the GIS techniques. Watershed delineation methods are very effective in rainfall-runoff modeling. By the use of GIS techniques we identified the stream network. In this work the parts of Mahanadi river basin which comes through the Cuttack, Nayagarh and Khordha district of Odisha was delineated. The drainage area of the river Mahanadi covers approximately 51,000 square miles (1,32,100sq.km). In this work ArcGIS software used to perform watershed delineation by using SRTM data of Digital Elevation Model (DEM). In this study the process for a watershed delineation discussed. Mainly in ArcGIS hydrology tools used for this delineation process. In this study as a result watershed delineated and differentiate the drainage order by highlights the water stream. We found 3 orders of watershed delineation in this study area as a result
