Abstract

Weirs are built across a stream that changes the flow behavior and usually results in a change in the water level. The purpose of non linear weir is to increase the rate of flow per unit length of the weir. Many researchers have suggested various shapes of weirs to improve the discharging ability of the weir. Non linear weir provides more discharging capacity as compared with linear weir, and can pass more discharge at relatively low head. Geometric and hydraulic design for non linear weir is the major factor for the flow capacity of the weir. This research study is presented in the prospect of assessing the hydraulic performance of curved weir experimentally and mainly concerned with the geometry of curved weir that gives maximum discharge with minimum head. Laboratory test is conducted for the five different models of curved weirs. The test is performed in the rectangular channel and based on the result found from the analysis the generalized equation for discharge coefficient is proposed.
