Abstract
The earliest newspaper copies remaining from the Turks in Cyprus are from Zaman newspaper, which has been published between 1891-1900 with the financial and intellectual efforts of the Ottoman government and intelligentsia as well as the Turks in Cyprus. The disagreements within the administration of the newspaper caused the formation of other newspapres such as Ye ni Zaman. At the same time, Zaman not only had interactions and disputes with the Cyprus newspapers in both Turkish and Greek, but also with Bâbiâlî. As a result, the Ottoman administration started to track Zaman and other newspapers of the island. Although at that time Cyprus was under British rule, the Ottoman Government restricted the circulation of certain newspapers, which it declared harmful publications; and even tried to stop their publication.
