Formation of health-preserving competencies in future teachers of the specialty «secondary education (biology and human health)»

Abstract

The article is devoted to the topical issue of training applicants for higher education in the specialty 014 «Secondary Education (Biology and Human Health)» and the formation of future professionals a qualities and competencies that would be in demand by employers and ensure their competitiveness. Until recently, Ukraine did not provide professional training for teachers of the basics of health for general secondary education. This subject was taught at the school and is taught by teachers of other specialties. It is believed that any teacher can easily act as a teacher of «Fundamentals of Health», but this is not the case. In 2016, in the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 12.05.2016 № 506 On approval of the List of subject specialties of specialty 014 «Secondary education (by subject specialties)», which is the formation and placement of public procurement and combination of specialties (subject specialties) in the system training of pedagogical staff presented a new subject specialty 014.05 «Secondary education (Biology and Human Health)» [1]. Until 2016, the subject specialty sounded like this: «Secondary education (Biology)». Thanks to the new subject specialty, graduates at the end of the relevant educational and professional program receive a professional qualification: Teacher of Biology, Basics of Health. The formation and development of health-preserving competencies is of great importance in the training of specialists in this subject specialty. Therefore, it is necessary to use a system of tasks aimed at developing life and special health skills. Namely: increasing knowledge on saving lives and improving health, deepening skills and abilities (in particular, decision-making, problem solving, creative and critical thinking, communication, self-esteem and dignity, resistance to negative psychological influences, overcoming emotions and stress, the development of compassion and a sense of citizenship), students' awareness of the need to be responsible for their lives and health [2]. The publication also presents an analysis of the program for secondary schools «Fundamentals of Health» 5–9 grades. The analysis of textbooks recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is given
