Abstract
Premature pavement deterioration is mostly not expected if all design processes and procedures are followed. If it happens, it is as a result of one or more of the underlying assumptions in the pavement design not being met during construction and operation of the road. A study was carried out to re-assess the validity of these design assumptions owing to the fact that premature pavement distresses are seen in newly built key major roads in Freetown, Sierra Leone within few years of their design service life.
