Abstract
The article's essence consists of opposition, one of the universe's fundamental laws. Oppositions have been the subject of research in many disciplines such as philosophy, linguistics, and psychology in the past. These contrasts have continued from the past to the present, and have also taken their place in Kazakh proverbs. Although the opposites differ markedly from each other, they share a piece of meaning. In linguistics, the concept of opposition has been discussed in terms of collocational, semantic and syntactic, etc. aspects. In this study, the contrasts in Kazakh proverbs were examined in terms of semantics. Oppositions have been divided into various groups by researchers in the linguistics. During this study, the subject of oppositions, which can be graded based on John Lyons's grouping and divided into four groups as integrative, relational and directional opposition, was examined in Kazakh proverbs.
