Abstract
Background: Rosmarinus officinalis L have shown a variety of pharmacological activities as cancer chemoprevention and therapy in vitro and in vivo models. The study was conducted to evaluate the herb that was chosen from different locations with different conditions with respect to their active contents, antioxidant activity and Further to evaluate their anti- proliferative activity against different cancer cell lines with or without honey bee. Methods: The water crude extracts of both types Egyptian & Malaysian were analyzed for the most important active constituent’s. Owing to the lack of available standards only carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid could be quantified using HPLC, the antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH. Moreover, the two crude water extract was investigated for their anti- proliferative activities against different cancer cell lines with and without honey of anuka type as a rich source of antioxidant. Results: The Egyptian rose Mary herb showed high content of rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid compared to Malay type. Moreover Egyptian rosemary was superior as anti-proliferative against MDA-MB231 compared to Malay type .The Malaysian type showed the highest antioxidant activity by DPPH assay compared to Egyptian one the rosemary water crude extract shows differential anti-proliferative activity against human tumor cell lines and demonstrates strong antioxidant activity, which substantiates its chemo preventive potential.
