Abstract
Mercury (Hg) is a toxic metal that has been used for century as a constituent of medicine and other items. It is known to be neurotoxin and to magnify the toxic effects in neurology, GI and renal organ systems. The aim of the present study is to review the toxicities effect of the mercury compounds and its management, to describe the diagnostic approach in identifying the persons effected with mercury. Our review tries to strengthen the awareness among the public regarding the types of Hg exposure and its toxicity. We developed a search strategy to find any publication about Hg poisoning and its management. Using the key phrases mercury poisoning, mercury toxicity, mercury in science direct, google search, pubmed, dove press. Our review enlighten the treatment modality of Hg poisoning and its toxicities. Our results of the review try to strengthen the awareness among the public regarding the types of Hg exposure and its prevention. Finally we outlined the three major forms of mercury-elemental, inorganic,organic, presents a complex toxicological problem associated with the large variety of clinical presentations. Initiation of some adaptive measures such as dietary advice for children and pregnant woman in limiting their mercury intake. Recommendation of large number of studies is needed to improve the clinical outcome for better patient care.
