Abstract
The process of natural selection and the possible adaptive function of new substances may be studied in great detail by looking at the systems that resulted from the genesis of primordial metabolic and its growth to build the metabolic networks that are still in use today. Here, we outline the present understanding of the origins of life, or ancestral metabolism, and the techniques and hypotheses that have been proposed to explain how plants' wide range of chemicals may have evolved through time. We provide a summary of statistical tools that may be used to detect signals preferred at the gene and community level for the goal of examining patterns in molecular adaptation in plant digestion, and we examine the potential and limits of these methods
