Abstract
The paper attempts to trace the genesis of autonomy movement and development constraints in the Sixth Schedule area of North East India. It attempts to highlight the different phases of autonomy movements and political developments along with the roles of different councils in economic development of the Sixth Schedule areas. It critically and briefly analyses the role of Autonomous District Councils, Autonomous Councils and Territorial Council for socio-economic development of their respective areas.
