Abstract
The term diastole comes from the Greek words dia and stellen, which together (diastellen) mean separation [1]. Normal diastolic function is left ventricular filling at normal pulmonary capillary pressure. Diastolic dysfunction is impaired filling of the chamber with a compensatory increase in left atrial pressure [2].
