Abstract

The method of information distortion, which has been used throughout history to influence and direct the society, has taken a different form with social media applications, and this has opened a door for the post-truth period. The word post-truth, which is explained as the replacement of reality with personal opinions and emotions, with the replacement of cognitive intelligence with emotionality, it briefly defines the process of trivialization of truth. In this period, a false universe based onnot facts but on perceptions, is produced by arousing emotions. On this created ground, the perceived reality in certain dimensions loses its real importance, and lying can become ordinary by decreasing the importance individuals attach to the truth. The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of users on the Twitter platform, which is considered an important example of network society, about the messages sent to the title of university to Qataris without exam. For this purpose, 25531 tweets shared by using the social media platform Twitter were examined. In the study, document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was carried out and social network analysis was carried out on the data obtained. When the results are interpreted in general, it shows that the public can make comments without confirming the accuracy of the news and without questioning, based on a topic close to their own worldview started from social media applications.
