Abstract

Gender is nourished by cultural codes, values and beliefs. Although there are more or less similarities in societies nourished by certain roots, each culture has developed its own gender stereotypes. This situation has led to the development of ready-made and stereotyped judgments towards women and men in all societies. It is important to look at women from the eyes of men in social life in terms of understanding the gender phenomenon in patriarchal societies. Considering the historical adventure of Turkish society, it is quite wrong to make a judgment that women are imprisoned in a separate or detached position from men. Since the day the Turks took the stage of history, women can be seen as the protagonists of administrative and administrative affairs, even if they differ from men in terms of their social role. With the acceptance of Islam, the perception of women has degenerated in certain aspects, since the elements in Arab and Persian culture have been introduced as Islam itself, and this situation has found its place in oral and written culture. In this study, the sociology of society and the perception of gender will be examined through two elegy folk songs. Both songs, which were chosen as examples, are very important in terms of the sanction of the ceremony on women and detecting the traces of masculine domination. Evaluations will be made in terms of gender theories and the duties and responsibilities imposed on women by social norms will be tried to be explained through selected/analyzed folk songs. It will also be revealed that folk songs, which are one of the narrative forms related to discourse, are an important narrative in the analysis of the sociology of society.
