Abstract

In this article, which focuses on the cultural changes in the works of Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, firstly the definitions and relations of the concepts of culture and civilization were mentioned, and then, in order to determine the main lines of our author's understanding of culture, his family, the environment he grew up in, the literary community he belonged to, the period in which he lived, his nutritional resources and his library were examined. The cultural resources of Yakup Kadri, who added temporary artistic experiments and understandings such as Nev-Greekism to his readings from Eastern, Western and Turkish literature, and witnessed directly or indirectly the various wars of the Turks until the War of Independence, were shaped in such an atmosphere. The understanding of culture and civilization has been evaluated in the context of Yakup Kadri's novels Rahmet (story), Erenlerin Vineyard (essay - prose poetry), Bir Exile, Judgment Night, Sodom and Gomorrah and Ankara, which carries his reading to a different dimension with his writing essays. As a result of the evaluation, the admiration for the Western civilization, which he admired since his childhood and grew up under the influence of its culture, and this so-called civilization; It has been seen that the writer went down to the lowest level and gained a realistic identity with events such as living in Europe, the Balkan Wars, the First World War, and the War of Independence.
