Abstract

The purpose of the work is to reveal the peculiarities of the activities of the Ukrainian Military Liquidation Commission in Poland at the end of 1920–1921, which was connected, in particular, with the placement of units of the interned Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic in camps on the territory of Poland and the provision of acceptable living conditions for Ukrainian soldiers. The research methodology involves the application of the principles of scientifi c research in their combination (descriptive, problem-chronological and prosopographic methods, as well as analysis and synthesis). The scientifi c novelty is due to the appeal to a little-researched topic, as well as the introduction into scientifi c circulation of hitherto unknown document from the fonds of the Central Military Archives of Poland – the report of V. Zelinskyi, the head of the Ukrainian Military Liquidation Commission to the Minister of the Government of the Ukrainian People's Republic. The mentioned document is able to shed additional light on the circumstances of the stay of interned soldiers of the Ukrainian People's Republic Army in the camps, including the quality of sanitary and medical care provided to them in Ukrainian and Polish military hospitals. Prospects for further studies: publication of new unknown documents from Ukrainian and Polish archives with the aim of comprehensively reproducing the specifi cs of the activities of the Ukrainian Military Liquidation Commission. Conclusions. The commission performed mediating functions between the commanders of the groups of internees and the main command of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, on the one hand, and the Polish ministries taking care of the interned Ukrainian soldiers (military aff airs, foreign and internal aff airs) on the other. Its activities made it possible to fi nd balanced and compromise solutions related to various aspects of the stay of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic in internment camps, and in a broader sense, it contributed to the adaptation of Ukrainian soldiers to their stay in Poland, the adjustment of their lives as political emigrants.
