Abstract

Increasing the innovative activity of enterprises requires preliminary identification of the main obstacles that inhibit the implementation of innovative activities. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to determine the obstacles that stand in the way of enterprises carrying out innovative activities, and to choose directions for overcoming these obstacles. Achieving the set goal necessitated solving the following main tasks: establishing key barriers on the way to the implementation of innovative activities by enterprises and determining the relationships between these barriers; performing an empirical analysis of the obstacles that arise when enterprises implement innovative activities; substantiation of directions for overcoming the specified obstacles. In the course of the research, seven main factors were identified, which have a negative impact on the implementation of innovative activities by enterprises of Ukraine. At the same time, obstacles corresponding to these factors are divided into two groups. The first group includes mainly external obstacles that arise outside the internal environment of the respective enterprises and in the vast majority of cases are not influenced by these enterprises. At the same time, the second group of obstacles includes mainly internal obstacles that arise directly in the internal environment of enterprises and, under certain conditions, are influenced by these enterprises. In particular, the second group of obstacles includes the insufficient amount resources that enterprises can use in carrying out innovative activities, the unsatisfactory quality of these resources, and the imperfection of their management processes. The conducted empirical analysis of a sample of enterprises showed that internal obstacles that arise in the process of implementing innovative activities have a significant impact on the innovative activity of enterprises. In particular, it was established that for all types of economic activity that were studied, a decrease in the average level of internal obstacles to the implementation of innovative activities leads to an increase in the level of innovative activity of the corresponding enterprises. It was established that overcoming these internal obstacles can be done with the use of external support. Subjects of innovative infrastructure should play an important role in providing such support.
