Abstract

Introduction. The article provides an analysis of the State standard of basic secondary education and a comparative analysis of model programs for the integrated course «Health, Safety, and Well-being» for grades 5-6 regarding topics related to fire safety. The purpose of the article is to publish the results of the research on the requirements of the State standard of basic secondary education regarding fire safety, as well as to provide a comparative and content analysis of the fire safety topics in the integrated course «Health, Safety, and Well-being» model programs for grades 5-6 of the New Ukrainian School. The research of the State standard requirements and the content of model programs was determined by the necessity to identify the completeness and breadth of fire safety topics, the features of the approach to forming competencies in fire safety in students. Methods. The research utilized methods of analysis of scientific literature, mathematical methods including registration and ranking, and theoretical methods such as analysis, synthesis, generalization, comparison, conclusion, induction, and deduction. The main research methods were comparative analysis and content analysis of topics directly or indirectly related to fire safety. Results. The research showed that there are significant discrepancies in approaches to fire safety topics in different authoring teams' model programs. Some programs include fire safety questions for only one year of study, either for fifth or sixth grade, while others have fire safety topics for both fifth and sixth grades. Originality. The scientific novelty of the research results lies in a detailed comparative assessment of the context related to fire safety in the model programs of the integrated course «Health, Safety, and Well-being» for grades 5-6. Conclusion. The model programs significantly differ in the number and content of topics related to fire safety. The number of topics ranges from three to nineteen. The model programs provide only general titles of the topics, including those related to fire safety, which may be more or less developed in educational institution programs, textbooks, and other materials. The number of topics presented in the model programs does not regulate the amount of time allocated to studying a particular issue, as it depends on several factors, including the number of hours allocated to the integrated course and the program developed by the educational institution based on one of the model programs. The identification and analysis of fire safety topics will help teachers and author teams who will develop model programs for the integrated course «Health, Safety, and Well-being» for grades 7, 8, and 9.
