Abstract
The article discusses various approaches to the formation of a multicultural language personali-ty of a non-linguistic specialist. The concept of language personality is defined. It is pointed out that in relation to the practice of teaching foreign languages a multicultural language personality is un-derstood as the totality of a person's abilities for foreign language communication at the intercultur-al level, for adequate interaction with representatives of other cultures. Current approaches and their advantages in the formation of a student's multicultural language personality are analysed.
It is concluded that in teaching a foreign language in the educational environment of a non-linguistic university, a new understanding of culture is embodied in the intercultural approach. This approach is based on the need to prepare students for the effective implementation of intercultural communication in their future professional activity. Solving this problem requires the widespread use of such active methods of training and education as creative research activity; discussions; group and individual work; project development; role-playing games; teleconferences, during which a stu-dent gains experience in solving the problems related to the peculiarities of interaction in a multicul-tural environment.
