Abstract
Literary world has produced a great deal of works on Istanbul. In these works, Istanbul has become the reflection of both reality and representation not only as a place and a living area but also with its all other forms. The non-margin appearances related to the daily life and ways of entertainment in Istanbul have gained different forms within the duality of this reality and representation. It is possible to see the most simple and realistic descriptions of marginalization of tradition and westernization in Ahmet Rasim's works. Istanbul and the daily life of Istanbul which are romanticized in travelogues and in orientalist views have reverse appearance in Ahmet Rasim's works. In this context, the tendency to consider the entertainment life in old Istanbul as non-margin is controversial. The entertainment life in Istanbul which began to change with westernization does not symbolize a certain civilization/identity. Nevertheless it expresses marginalization of westernization and tradition and a certain introversion.
