Sustainable societies cater to the diverse needs of all the people in the society. Sustainable development is about addressing the intermingling issues that we encounter in societies today. In this context the role of women in ensuring a sustainable society needs to be focused on. Women's role based on traditional concepts of gender of carrying out domestic responsibilities, caring for the family, managing the household puts her in close contact with the environment. Women are more vulnerable to the impact of environmental challenges facing societies across the world. Addressing gender-based issues and finding ways to meet the challenges and empowerment of women can lead to more gains in building sustainable societies.
