Abstract
Sganarelle or The Imaginary Cocu is a comedy in verse in one act by Molière. It premiered on May 28, 1660 at the Théâtre du Petit-Bourbon in Paris to great success. The premise is ridiculous, that's the point. And even more ridiculous than Molière's original plot is the idea that the producers and directors in the world of this play thought would be a reasonable basis for a reality show, and especially one featuring an all-black cast . By far the most engaging part of the piece is when the "actors" take a break from filming to discuss how absurd this is and how it reflects broader issues of systemic racism in television and film.
