Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the impact of a full-scale war in Ukraine on domestic and global food security. The agricultural sector plays an important role both in the economy of Ukraine and in the world agricultural market. In the conditions of a full-scale war, the domestic agro-industrial complex demonstrated impressive resilience. If, according to the results of 2022, the domestic economy received 240,4 billion UAH losses, the enterprises of the agro-industrial complex received 87,1 billion UAH net profit and this is the best result among all types of economic activity. This was achieved thanks to the «safety margin» laid down before the war, significant areas of winter crops, as well as formed reserves of resources and the impossibility of interrupting the production cycle. At the same time, according to expert estimates, the direct losses caused to the agricultural sector of Ukraine as a result of the large-scale Russian invasion amounted to 10,3 billion dollars USA by the end of 2023. Obviously, they will continue to accumulate until the end of the war, so it may take a long time for Ukraine to recover its pre-war position in agriculture after the destruction caused by the Russian invasion. Considering the critical importance of the supply of products of the Ukrainian agricultural sector for some countries in Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, the initiatives and efforts of countries and international organizations to promote and support domestic agro-industrial exports in order to ensure global food security are extremely important. The interpretation of the results of the Global Food Security Index gives reason to state that, having a huge agricultural potential, Ukraine occupies low places both in the general rating and by the components of the integral index. In 2022, the country received 71st place with a final index of 57.9 points, and in the European ranking it was overall 26th out of 26 countries. Therefore, in ensuring food security, issues of its management, first of all, at the national level, become important.
