Abstract
Introduction. The article examines the peculiarities of using gardens and parks for the development of international tourism. Recreation and tourism are important factors in the economic and cultural development of regions, contribute to the protection of nature, the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, and the establishment of cooperation between states. Aesthetically attractive landscapes attract significant flows of tourists. The unique features of heritage sites, including parks, gardens and green spaces, motivate the public to preserve and protect these sites for present and future generations. International routes developed on the basis of heritage elements have a significant potential to unite human communities. Therefore, the issue of using garden and park landscapes for the development of ecotourism and cultural tourism needs wider consideration. Purpose: to analyze the world experience of using the historical heritage of gardens and parks for the development of tourism and recreation, to assess the possibilities and prospects of its use for Ukraine. Materials and methods. The material for the publication was reports of the Council of Europe, publications of the Association “European Route of Historic Gardens”, works of domestic and foreign authors dedicated to the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. Scientific methods were used in the research process: theoretical generalization and analysis to characterize the use of historical gardens for the purpose of tourism across European countries, logical generalization of results (formulation of conclusions). Results. The article provides an overview of the advantages for attracting tourists that historical gardens and parks have in terms of the development of cultural tourism and ecotourism. An analysis of the European Route of Historic Gardens, based on the unique gardens and parks of ten European countries, was made. This 2020 route was certified as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, which is a confirmation of the value of its historical, artistic, social and natural heritage. The official coordinator of the route is the Association “European Route of Historic Gardens”, whose headquarters are located in Spain. As a sign of Ukraine's solidarity and support, the Sofiivka National Dendrological Park of the NAS of Ukraine was accepted into this association in 2022. The Arboretum of the Residence of the Metropolitans of Bukovina and Dalmatia in Chernivtsi, which is currently included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is also a promising object for joining the route network. Therefore, the development of tourism and recreation on the basis of historical gardens and parks involves the creation of special cultural and tourist products that will raise awareness of the importance of the cultural and natural environment, their sustainability and preservation.
