Abstract

Introduction. Enterprises of Ukraine operate under martial law, which is characterized by certain restrictive measures in the economy and an increase in the influence of various risk factors on the activities of enterprises. The situation is complicated by the fact that due to further uncertainty, the impact of risks on the future activity of enterprises cannot be predicted. Goal. The purpose of the study is to consider the impact of business risks on the activities of enterprises, the peculiarities of business risk management in the conditions of martial law in Ukraine, and to outline proposals for its improvement. Materials and methods. The research materials are: the legal framework for managing business risks, the works of domestic authors that highlight the essence of business risks and their management mechanisms, statistical materials that provide information on the profitability indicators of enterprises. In the process of carrying out the research, the following scientific methods were used: theoretical generalization (to highlight the classification and economic content of the risk management process), grouping, analysis and synthesis (to analyze the profitability of the activities of large, medium and small enterprises), logical generalization of the results (to outline the impact of various business risks on the activities of enterprises and measures to improve the management of business risks in the conditions of martial law). The results. The scientific article examines the economic content of entrepreneurial risks, their types, the main mechanisms of neutralization of risks existing in the activities of enterprises. The risks that affect the activities of enterprises in modern conditions are proposed to be divided into two groups: “ordinary” — risks that were present in the activities of enterprises in the pre-war period and persist now, and “military” — risks that arose during the war. The main business risks related to these groups are presented. The impact of business risks on the performance indicators of enterprises is analyzed. It was noted that the aggravation of previously existing and the appearance of “military” risks caused a drop in the profitability indicators of enterprises in 2022, compared to 2021. In 2023, as a result of measures to reduce business risks, profitability indicators of enterprises will improve. The main business risks that affect the activities of enterprises in the conditions of martial law are considered, in particular, risks associated with the fulfillment of legislative requirements, market risks, risks, deterioration of the solvency of customers, risks of stopping the activities of enterprises, logistical risks, risks of the implementation of long-term investment projects, energy risks, risks of lack of workers. When setting out risk management measures, the main attention is paid to the peculiarities of risk management at enterprises in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine, which are in close proximity to military operations. Prospects. In further scientific research, it is proposed to focus attention on specific approaches to the management of business risks, which were present in the activities of enterprises in the pre-war period, and are being exacerbated now, and business risks that arose in the conditions of martial law.
