Abstract

Introduction. In a broad sense, risk is uncertainty about the occurrence of future events. In a narrower sense, risk can be defined as a quantitative characteristic that indicates the frequency of occurrence of one event given the occurrence of another. In the context of global supply chains, risk involves uncertain conditions and events that could result in financial losses or delays in the delivery of goods and services. The impact of risk on all aspects of supply chains necessitates effective management. While supply chain management is an economic and social choice, each of which involves certain organisational and financial mechanisms, it is risk management that reduces the likelihood and magnitude of negative consequences. Thus, the goal of risk management is to minimise risks in order to completely avoid or partially reduce potential financial losses. Aspects of risk management theory are widely covered in the scientific works of economists around the world. However, many aspects of the comprehensive implementation of risk management methods in supply chains remain insufficiently studied, which makes this research relevant and in demand. Purpose. The purpose of the study is to develop an effective risk management system in global supply chains. Materials and methods. The research materials are: 1) works of domestic and foreign authors conducting scientific and practical research in the field of risk management and global supply chains; 2) analysis of Internet resources dedicated to risk management and the functioning of global supply chains in modern conditions. In the course of the study, the following scientific methods were used: literature review and abstraction (to determine the main approaches to the interpretation of risk management in global supply chains); analysis, synthesis and comparison (to expand the classification of existing risks, in particular those related to war); generalization (to develop the author's approach to the risk management system); PEST analysis (to identify the factors that are most detrimental to Ukraine's global supply chains). Results. The article analyses the peculiarities of risk management in global supply chains and develops the author's own interpretation of this concept. The classification of existing risks has been expanded by adding new ones related to war. The key factors that are currently most detrimental to global supply chains for Ukraine are identified. The proposed risk management system, which is focused on application in global supply chains, ensures effective risk management, taking into account the specifics of modern challenges, including those caused by the war. This system allows for a more accurate assessment of the risks arising in supply chains and ensures their minimisation through the implementation of appropriate management measures. Discussion. In further scientific research, it is advisable to focus attention on the improvement of risk assessment methods that arise in global supply chains, in particular, in conditions of instability caused by military conflicts. In addition, it is promising to study the effectiveness of the proposed risk management system when it is applied in the real conditions of global supply chains, as well as the development of recommendations for adapting this system to the specifics of certain sectors of the economy and different regions of the world.
