Abstract

The aim of this research is to va lid ate a project to obtain bioethanol on a pilot scale from alternative raw materials (mango, banana and corn) available in the Department of Cochabamba, Bolivia. lt is projected a production of bioethanol of 540 liters per year, the separation systems' optimization and the fermentation process allowed to produce anhydrous alcohol at 99,6% v/ v of purity. The pilot plant sizing parameters were determined and the separation system simulation comprising the distillation and dehydration processes in the Aspen HYSYS ® v. 8.0. software was carried out. The physicochemical analysis carried out -in addition to allow the characterization of Bioethanol, Gasohol E-10 and special gasoline- provided the necessary information to determine the use of anhydrous alcohol asan additiveto gasoline. The results obtained revealed thatthe different properties are within the parameters established in the ASTM D4806 standard and the corresponding regulations according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, 2006. The results of the research pro pose the production of anhydrous alcohol thatwould cover a percentage of the annual departmental demand of the new Super Ethanol 92 fuel, the production cost is Bs.120,85 per liter of 99,6% anhydrous ethanol and investment recovery in 9 years.
