Abstract
Violence is an inescapable part of life β it has been present through all history and across all cultures. Naturally, the extent of violence has varied in different locations and times, driven by contextual factors such as racism, poverty and war. But acknowledging the inevitability of violence does not preclude recognising that it is a public health issue that requires attention, and the use of the most effective strategies available to reduce its occurrence.
