Abstract
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 also called as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act which aims at providing legal guarantee for at least 100 days of employment every year at minimum wages for at least one able- bodied person in every rural poor house hold. This is a unique Act of its kind enacted since independence which provides for legal guarantee for at least 100 days of employment every year to every household. Thus it can be hoped and expected that the NREG Act will certainly provide socio economic justice to the people residing in rural areas of the country who have in fact been denied even basic rights which are very essential for the enjoyment of right to life and liberty as enshrined under Art 21 of the Constitution.
